The 252-room Wildbirch Hotel now is open in the heart of the Mushing District in Anchorage, Alaska, the city’s first lifestyle property and the largest new hotel to open in there in 20 years. The JdV by Hyatt property anchors the West Fourth Avenue corridor, a burgeoning hub for shopping, dining, and historical and cultural experiences.
"Watching this place come to life has been an honor," says Haje Thurau, general manager of the hotel. "It’s very special to see our overnight guests immerse themselves in the Anchorage lifestyle, engage with locals and discover what makes our little corner of Alaska such a magical place."
Stylish guest rooms
The Wildbirch's rooms feature plush beds whose wooden headboards have a topographical map pinpointing the summit of Denali. This is complemented by custom-designed leather-and-wood easy chairs. Retro minifridges, Illy coffee makers, Jonathan Adler bath products and luxurious bathrobes round out the room amenities.
Hotel guests can sit out on the deck around cozy firepits, enjoying views of Mount Susitna and the Knik Arm waterway.
Locally inspired F&B
Executive chef La Mont Caldwell has brought Crimson, the hotel’s signature restaurant, to life for guests and locals alike. Open daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner, the eatery offers high-end twists on Alaska's seafood staples with a touch of Pan-American Latin flair. Al fresco dining is available seasonally on Crimson’s terrace, and groups of up to 16 people are able to reserve the private dining room. Crimson’s bar serves a simplified menu, which also is available through room service.
In the lobby, the Canteen Coffee Co. offers unique provisions and souvenirs from local artisans, as well as espresso, coffee, fresh juices, grab-and-go food options and more. Guests can enter through the hotel lobby or order through its streetside walk-up window.
Coming this fall, the Undertap, created in partnership with the team behind Anchorage’s Midnight Sun Brewing Co., will be a laid-back tasting room for craft-beer enthusiasts. A relaxed space for private events is adjacent to the tasting room.
Three meeting rooms are available, totaling about 4,800 square feet of event space indoors, including a 2,620 square-foot ballroom.
